COURSE TITLE: Crisis Management Training for Responders (Rev.04)  Course Code: CMR-R04

General Focus of Training: To prepare FEI Responders for their role as on site Family Assistance Representatives (FAR) and/or as Crisis Support Coordinators (CSC). For a description of these roles, click here.

Target Audience: Credentialed Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Mental Health Counselors, Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Child Care Workers, Nurses, Clergy and other behavioral health professionals who meet the criteria below.

Prerequisites: Master’s level (or above) behavioral health professional

  • Potential participants must also complete and submit an application and questionnaire designated by the Crisis Management Team at FEI Behavioral Health
  • Agency employees or private practitioners must be willing to enter into contract with FEI Behavioral Health
  • Participants working for an agency must also request and receive permission from their supervisor both to attend the training and to be available for responses

Additional requirements for CSC Role:

  • Current licensure or certification in their state/province of residence or in the state/province of professional practice if available in state/province of residence/practice (CSC Role)
  • Training/and or experience in individual and group interventions following catastrophic events. Please see the FAQ Page for more information on approved debriefing training and/or experience. Additionally, documentation of professional liability insurance must show limits of the following minimums: $1 million per occurrence and $3 million per aggregate.

Objectives: Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe FEI’s roles and responsibilities in a disaster
  • Describe legislation relevant to aviation responses
  • Explain the role of government and non-government agencies and organizations
  • Identify behaviors displayed by survivors / families
  • Practice effective communication skills
  • Practice effective self care techniques
  • Effectively disengage from the response process

Length of Course: 7 contact hours - this is usually scheduled over a period of 1 day. A 30 - 45 minute meal period is usually added to this time frame.

Instructor Qualifications: Course instructors will include professional staff from FEI Behavioral Health who are Master’s level or above behavioral health professionals with significant experience in crisis intervention and traumatic stress response, and will have received advanced instruction and supervised practice in crisis response and other types of emergency services.

Requirements for Successful Course Completion:

  1. Completion of required prerequisites.
  2. Attendance at all sections of the course is required, and exceptions cannot be made.
  3. Active participation in group activities and discussions involved in the training program

Participants who successfully complete this training will be eligible to serve as an FEI Family Assistance Representative (FAR) in response to emergencies within companies that have contracted for these services from FEI Behavioral Health. (For a description of these roles, click here)

Participants who are master’s level or above behavioral health professionals holding current state/provincial licensure or certification (where available) will also be eligible to serve as Crisis Support Coordinators (CSC). These participants must also have training and/or experience in individual and group interventions following catastrophic events. Cost: FEI Behavioral Health does not charge for this training. All attendees are responsible for paying for travel, meals, lodging, and other expenses incurred related to this training. When FEI is requested to offer this training within a company or agency, reasonable and customary charges for professional training services will be assessed as well as travel, lodging, and meals for the trainers.

Other: FEI Behavioral Health does not pay participants for their attendance at this training. Completion of this training does not constitute any guarantee of employment or scheduling of individual responders during specific catastrophic events. Upon completion of this training, selected individuals will contract with FEI and become part of FEI’s Response Network. FEI Behavioral Health reserves the right to screen both applicants and attendees in all of our training programs.
